In rural southern Illinois, Jon Patrick grew up on his grandfather’s contracting company’s job sites, enamored with construction vehicles and detailed blueprints. His faith also instilled in him a fondness for tradition and history, which was further solidified with regular trips to St. Louis’s historic districts. A childhood full of music education and Legos furthered his desire to explore the creative limits of beautiful mediums.
Jon Patrick pursued these interests, earning his degree in Classical Architecture in 2024 from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, which teaches the Beaux-Arts method of hierarchical design, refined use of historical styles, and hand-rendered presentation, which includes watercolors, ink sketches, and high-quality wash renderings. Across his college summers, Jon Patrick interned with various firms in St. Louis and Atlanta. He also studied at the Ax:son Johnson and CSCA Summer Intensive at Downing College in Cambridge University, spending time in industrial Sweden and Great Britain.
Afterwards, he traveled to Italy to study the antiquities of Rome and Tivoli, and is currently preparing to return for a greater period of research. Before officially beginning his career and joining Mitchell Wall in 2025, he briefly pursued an interest in architectural stone carving for a year in South Bend, Indiana.
Jon Patrick has received ample recognition in the early years of his career, graduating magna cum laude from Benedictine, where he also received the Thomas Gordon Smith award, and many of his semester projects were awarded best in Design or best in Presentation. His work has been published in the ICAA’s Classicist, and his senior thesis was recently awarded the John Russell Pope Award by the ICAA Washington Mid Atlantic Chapter.
When he’s not hard at work in the studio, Jon Patrick enjoys playing a variety of instruments, especially the electric guitar and piano (Mark Knopfler and Billy Joel are leading inspirations). He also loves to read, play soccer, sketch, and develop his cooking skills. He prefers dogs, but is not opposed to petting a well-behaved cat.
