The challenge facing Mitchell Wall Architecture & Design was to design a home that complements and blends with the surrounding environment. There is a protected riparian corridor along the east end of the property and walking paths surrounding the home. Natural and local materials are used throughout to reduce the carbon imprint. This 3,400 s.f. residence opens to the outdoor living areas and fabulous vistas.
The open feel of the interior spaces continues throughout the different areas. The dining room is defined by columns rather than walls. The gathering room flows into the breakfast room and patio, and opens to the outdoor living areas. The “mud room” or family center has a doggy bath, cubbies for each family member, and a center island work station with cubbies below for hobbies, gift wrapping paper, and other uses. This family uses the island for wrapping gifts. The laundry room is situated between the family center and the expansive kitchen.
This home includes three bedrooms – two of which are Owners’ suites. The two Owners’ suites allows for aging parents to move in, or in this case, the two owners to each have their own bedroom suite. Many reasons exist for this: two single people who are not a couple; one person stays up late and the other gets up early; or one snores. To protect anonymity and privacy, we are not stating the reason in this home!
This home was built by Hayden Homes Inc. of St. Louis. The interior designer was Jeanne Huber, then affiliated with June Roesslein Interiors.
