Once a neglected and dilapidated structure, this house has been transformed into the new headquarters for the Jewish Student Union in St. Louis, blending historic charm with modern functionality. The renovation began with a complete gutting of the interior, paving the way for a thoughtful reimagining of the space. Every detail was designed to foster community, learning, and connection.
The updated home now features a warm and inviting library, a space that encourages reflection and study. The kosher kitchen was expanded and modernized to serve as a central hub for events and gatherings, while the addition of space off of the second story created a suite of efficient offices to support the Union’s work. A cozy living room and a newly added congregation space at the rear provide areas for students to connect, host events, and build relationships. To add a playful and engaging touch, the basement has been repurposed as an arcade, offering recreational opportunities for visitors.
This transformation demonstrates the power of architectural vision in revitalizing a space to meet the evolving needs of its community. By preserving the character of the original house while enhancing it with contemporary elements, the project stands as a beacon of renewal and purpose.
