The couple wanted a more spacious bathroom. Their children were raised and they figured – why not borrow space from their now spare bedroom into a new owners’ bathroom?
The 1950’s house had honey wood accents throughout, so the architect and cabinet maker used this as the starting palette for the owners’ new bathroom. The warmth of the wood balances harmoniously with the cool white porcelain used for the floors and walls. The iridescent accent tile bath behind the tub provides a focal point. The iridescence also provides an ethereal blend of colors, suggesting a soothing waterfall.
The custom made cabinets fit into the corners of the bathroom, floating above the perimeter baseboard heaters, anchoring the corners of the light filled space.
The freestanding bathtub of volcanic limestone contrasts beautifully with the natural wood grain and tones. The curbs of the bathtub, basin and light fixtures balance the rectilinear nature of the custom cabinets.
What was a rarely used spare bedroom is now a much enjoyed haven.
